Chapter 36 - HIBI

Sun had a point. It was unusual for teachers to live outside of the palace. Yuna grew worried about this. She would be in constant danger if she had to live in the palace. It would be a matter of time before the Empress would find a way to get rid of her. On the other hand, being inside the palace would be helpful in preventing any future plots that could lead to Minho’s uprising.

She still had to think about Minho murdering his brother and father. If she weren’t in the palace, she wouldn’t be able to stop anything from happening. She still had another 7 years till the assassination of the Emperor and 5 years till Prince Jimin’s assassination. She still had doubts about their deaths because it seemed that all the events were moving a bit too quickly.

It could be because she altered certain things in the timeline. She felt the need to make plans based off of events that were happening now rather than her memories of the past. It seemed like things were changing towards a different direction.

Yuna tried her best to reassure Sun, “It won’t happen. I’m sure father wouldn’t allow for me to live in the palace. I’ll ask him once he gets back.” Sun said, “I hope so. I would be sad to see you leave.” Yuna hugged her and patted her back to let her know that she wasn’t going anywhere. She thought of Sun as a sister. She didn’t plan on living apart from her family.

She felt that 12 years of living with them wasn’t enough. She still wanted to spend the remaining years with her family if she had to die at age 19.

Yuna spent the rest of the day talking to Sun until the sky turned dark. Eventually, Sun went to her room and Yuna was left in her room without anything to do. While pacing around her room thinking of ways to avoid living in the palace, her father arrived. She could tell when her father was home because of the loud noises coming from the courtyard. The maids and servants would rush to the entrance to greet her father whenever he came home.

Yuna decided it would be best if she spoke to her father about everything. She quickly left her room and joined the servants in greeting her father at the entrance. Her father had dark circles under his eyes, and he had a dark expression on his face. This deterred the servants from speaking out of place. He seemed to be exhausted from working all day. It must’ve been tough trying to get the assassins to speak. They were trained well after all.

Yuna greeted her father, “Welcome home, father. I’m sure today was a long day for you. I was waiting for you to come home. Is everything okay? Were you able to find out anything?” Her father scowled when he thought of the uncooperative assassins, “I couldn’t get them to speak. It wasn’t an easy task. Anyways, I don’t think that we should be talking about what happened. Is your mother okay?”

Yuna nodded, “Yes, she’s okay. I sent her to bed because she was distraught about what happened in the palace.” Her father seemed happy that his family was safe at home. He then asked, “Why have you come out to greet me? It’s cold out and you didn’t even bother to wear anything.” Her father seemed to be upset that she wasn’t taking care of herself properly. She nervously replied, “I was just too focused on speaking to you, that I forgot to wear something thicker. Let’s go inside. I want to talk to you about something.”

Both father and daughter headed to his study to chat. When they arrived, he ordered the servants to get Yuna some nice warm tea and a blanket to cover her. They were quick with the task and Yuna sat on the sofa in his study while drinking tea. Her father sat at his usual spot on his desk while looking over paperwork.

After Yuna was done drinking her tea, he said, “So, what did you want to talk about?” Yuna replied, “I’ve been worried about something. During Princess Ara’s birthday party, I was able to become her official teacher. I heard that it is mandatory for all royal teachers to reside in the palace. I do not wish to live in the palace. As you can tell, I’m still too young. I wanted some more time at home to spend with you, mother and Sun.”

Junho felt happy listening to his cute little daughter. He also felt that she was too young to live in a dangerous place as the palace. He agreed, “I also think that you’re too young to live in the palace. I wish to know why you chose to become Princess Ara’s teacher. You didn’t discuss with us your intentions.”

Yuna felt guilty about keeping her father in the dark. She didn’t want to reveal everything to her father, but she knew that he was good at catching liars. Afterall, he specialized in getting spies to talk. She had no choice but to tell him the truth. She didn’t know if he would believe anything she said, but she was willing to try. She trusted him and she knew that her father wasn’t an enemy.

If she wanted to continue to live for longer than her allotted time, it would be best to let her father help her through her plans. Yuna began explaining everything, “I don’t know if you’ll believe anything I say from now on, but I hope that you will understand.” Her father spoke, “It doesn’t matter if I believe or not. I just want to know the truth.”

Yuna continued, “In truth, I have experienced this life more than once.” One of his eyebrows lifted up in question, “What do you mean by that?” She frantically tried to explain herself in hopes that she wouldn’t look like a crazy person, “What I mean is that I know what will happen in the future. I’ve gone through this life already.” Her father let her continue even though he was clueless as to how that could happen.

Yuna explained, “If I considered the past lifetimes I’ve lived, I should already be over 100 years old. I know it sounds unbelievable, but it’s the truth. My past lifetime was nothing but tragedy.” Her father looked sad when he heard about her past lifetime. It meant that he wasn’t a good father in that lifetime. For some odd reason, he felt a pang of guilt. He asked, “Why was it a tragedy?”

Yuna reminisced about the past, “Things were a lot different then. Mother did not live as long as she lived in this lifetime. She passed away when I was young.” He was shocked by her statement. He couldn’t imagine a life without his wife. His expression grew somber, “What was I doing?” She frowned, “You were too distraught about mother’s death. You were always busy at work. I hardly had any time to interact with you.”

Her father grew depressed after learning about his behavior. He could understand why things were that way. He couldn’t imagine living a life without Sena. He probably wasn’t himself. He could imagine how much Yuna suffered because of him. He asked, “So what exactly happened in that lifetime?”

Yuna explained, “To cut the explanation short, you weren’t there for me. There is a war that’ll happen in the next 7 years. The emperor and crown prince Jimin were assassinated by both the Empress and Prince Minho. Prince Minho rose to power. During the time that you were sent to war with the Miyon Nation, I married Prince Minho. He was able to gain some of your power by marrying me. Eventually, he grew so powerful, that I was useless. I was executed for crimes that I didn’t commit. I never got to say goodbye to you.”

By the time Yuna finished explaining what happened, she was in tears. Her father instantly embraced her and comforted her. He wouldn’t have believed her, but he could sense the sincerity behind her words. He could see that his daughter was telling the truth. She looked beyond her years when explaining the past.

It became apparent to him that the culprit behind todays assassination was either Prince Minho or the Empress. If it weren’t for Yuna telling him the truth, he would probably have never suspected them at all. His eyes grew cold when he imagined Prince Minho making a mess of his family. His heart was torn into shreds when he heard Yuna’s explanation.

He vowed that he would never let any of that happen. If he had to sacrifice himself to fight, he would in a heartbeat. He would never let his enemies threaten their family. If Prince Minho were to plan on having Yuna married off to him, he would be dreaming a pointless dream. He would never let that puny little brat take advantage of Yuna. He felt the fury in his heart rise a great deal. He would have to pummel that brat to the ground the next time he saw him.
