Chapter 53 - HIBI

Namjoo and Yuna successfully arrived at the marketplace. Namjoo directed Yuna to the Weapons & Armor shop that was located not too far from the Town Square. When she first walked into the shop, a musky scent masked the entire store. The walls were covered with high quality swords and other weapons.

Yuna had no clue on what type of weapon would fit her best. She decided that it’d be better to wait on buying a weapon until she began her actual martial arts training. She’d have to just look for the right gear to workout in. Namjoo was used to purchasing from the weapon shop.

She easily navigated through the store while looking for things she needed for herself. Yuna took her time looking around the shop. She didn’t need to buy weapons, so she kept walking through the vast shop. When she arrived at the front counter, she came across a man that was seated comfortably. He had a book the covered his face. It appeared as if the man had snoozed off to sleep while at work.

Yuna didn’t expect to come across a man reading in a weapons and armor shop, especially the store owner. He seemed too lax to be the owner. She lightly knocked on the wooden counter to wake him. The man snorted awake when he heard the loud knocking noises. The book the was on his face fell on his big toe, causing the man to howl in pain. Yuna couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

Is the man capable of fighting if he can’t even withstand a book falling on his feet? She doubted his credibility when she noticed how clumsy he was. Yuna thought that the owner of a weapons shop would appear as a well-seasoned warrior, not this librarian looking guy. The pain on his big toe caused him to lose his footing when he got up from his chair.

He hit his head on the counter with a thud. He grumbled painfully, “Mother of pearl! That hurts so badly! Who in their right mind would write such a d*mn heavy book anyway? It was my fault for thinking that reading could help me in anyway. Wait till I get hands on that st*pid Hanwool!” Yuna interrupted his curses with a loud cough.

The man was startled by the customer that was glaring at him. He straightened out his attire and grinned at the customer. “So, what brings

you here? Need to buy any weapons from our shop? Sorry about earlier.” Yuna ignored his previous actions and got straight to the point, “I’ve been looking for some armor. Something easy to move around in.”

The shop owner’s expression changed to one of delight and sung out annoyingly, “Anything for the customer. Right this way, young man.” He directed Yuna to the back of the store where there were mannequins lined up. The gear was lined up in an orderly fashion to entice many customers to make big purchases.

Most of the gear seemed too big to fit her petite figure. Yuna frowned at the high-quality gear. She wouldn’t be able to wear any of them, because of her small stature. The man noticed Yuna’s discontent, so he directed her to the left. If you go over here, there will be plenty more in your size. All the gear in this section seemed to be made of little boys.

Yuna couldn’t find anything that she was looking for. She was looking for something that was durable and easy to move around in. The gear for boys weren’t as well developed as the gear made for men. She was disappointed with the gear. Most kids were busy living their life and it was hard to come across good quality gear for children.

Most children that learned martial arts at a young age were from prominent families that could afford their own personal tailors. Good quality gear for children were hard to come by. The marketplace was a place for both commoners and nobles. Most of the weapon shops located in the marketplace contained products that were targeted towards adult commoner men.

Yuna frowned at the select few options she had. If only she knew more about sewing and stitching, she’d be able to make her own gear. Maybe she could buy material from somewhere else and get the right gear made? That’d make more sense. The shopkeeper was normally someone that didn’t judge his customers.

He noticed the little boy was dressed shabbily and there was a stink that was noticeable. If he were to judge based off appearance, he would easily be mistaken for a beggar. He had a sharp eye for detail, so he was able to distinguish details about the customers that visited his shop. The boy seemed to be a noble. He could tell by the way the boy carried himself.

Most noble children were taught to walk in a certain manner. He could easily tell just from the elegant strides. If the boy was an ordinary

beggar, he would not speak so formally and upright. It was obvious to the smart shopkeeper, not to judge the boy so easily. He continued to be helpful to the customer, “Is there anything to your liking?”

Yuna frowned at the choices, “Nothing in particular. All of these seem to be bad in quality. I was hoping to look for something that would fit my stature and something that would be easy to move in.” The shopkeeper tried to sell one of the hemp garments in her hand, “Although this may look like an ordinary shirt, it’s very sturdy. You should give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.”

Yuna didn’t trust the shop owner. She was a queen at bargain shopping back when she had started her business from scratch. She could tell when a shop owner or salesperson was only trying to get the sale for commission purposes. They didn’t care about what the customer was looking for, they only cared about the profit.

The hemp shirt really looked to be an ordinary shirt. She didn’t really like the feel of hemp on her skin either. It was scratchy and uncomfortable. It wasn’t what she was looking for at all. She frowned, “I’m not interested.” The shopkeeper tried again, “It won’t hurt to just try it on. Trust me.”

Suddenly, Namjoo jumped into their conversation. “Hey old man!” Namjoo punched the shopowner’s arm playfully. The shopowner grumbled at the familiar young man, “What brings you here?” Namjoo grinned, “I brought my friend here to shop. You aren’t trying to sell my friend a dysfunctional item today, are you?”

The shopkeeper gulped when he was discovered for his stunt. He was planning on making the kid buy worthless items to suit his pockets. It was easy to fool rich kids that strived to be warriors. All he had to do was sell a useless item and tell them it had amazing qualities. Most bought into it. The only problem he had was with Namjoo.
