Yuna was looking around for things to buy when she suddenly heard her stomach growl loudly. Namjoo noticed the cute kid trying to pretend that there wasn’t a loud monster in her tummy demanding for food. Namjoo strangely felt the urge to act as a sister-figure to Yuna. Namjoo hardly got along with kids, but Yuna made her want a little sister.
Namjoo dotingly asked her, “Should we head over to a restaurant?” Yuna sheepishly nodded. They soon found a restaurant that was nearby. Yuna noticed the lively atmosphere inside and remembered that the restaurants in this world were a bit different. Most restaurants were more like a tavern or a bar.
She didn’t normally like to visit these restaurants because it was normally frowned upon on single women to be at this sort of place. There were men and travelers that frequented the tavern. Majority of these men were not from noble families. There were all sorts of adventurers and travelers that spent their time in the tavern.
Noble families found the tavern to be a dangerous place filled with rowdy and disruptive men. It was easy for nobles to tarnish their reputation by visiting these sorts of places. The only people found in taverns were illegitimate children that were naturally abandoned by their families or commoners that didn’t care about their reputations. If only Yuna had ignored this fact, she would’ve discovered that this was only a preconception; a prejudice that only existed in the minds of the ignorant.
Yuna would have known that the tavern was a place with a large amount of information. People from all over the world were at taverns mingling with one another and spreading information about the recent events. She could easily gain information from frequenting the tavern. It didn’t matter if people looked down on her for it.
She was in desperate need of information. Ever since she got reincarnated back into this world, she had changed up the natural flow of events that were supposed to lead to her death. She had changed up the plot so much that the future was uncertain. She had no clue what would be waiting for her in the future.
Although she had no problems ruining her image, she still had some worries about this place. She was young and it was also a dangerous place for a little girl, especially one that was the daughter of the war-hero General Junho. Although taverns were excellent places to meet people and gather information, it was also filled with criminals and scam artists. Yuna’s past self would have been eaten alive by these people.
Things were different now, Yuna was confidant in her abilities to notice their lies. Yuna decided that she shouldn’t have to worry about being caught in a tavern. She didn’t care about what the nobles thought of her anyway. It wasn’t like she needed to impress anybody.
Namjoo led Yuna to the tavern without considering how dangerous it was for a little girl. The tavern was lively and there was live music that could be heard at the entrance. When the doors were opened, the scent of freshly cooked food poured out from inside. The first thing she noticed upon entry was how loud the place was.
There were multiple conversations going on at once. Namjoo was used to visiting taverns and she naturally walked into the restaurant without any concerns. She found a table for them without the assistance of a waiter. Yuna was used to being led to a table by a host in a restaurant, but restaurants in this world were different.
There were no menus, but Namjoo knew what to order and ordered for them. Yuna was curious, “How do you know what to order without a menu?” Namjoo frowned at her question, “What’s a menu?” Yuna tried to explain but decided not to after consideration. It wouldn’t be smart to reveal anything to Namjoo. Although Namjoo looked to be someone that wouldn’t harm her, she still had her doubts.
Plus, it would be extremely difficult trying to explain what a menu was. How was she supposed to describe what a menu was without mentioning about her past life? Yuna smoothly changed the subject, “Never mind that. I’m more curious about why you decided to stick around me when there’s nothing special about a little girl like me.”
Namjoo frowned at Yuna for deliberately dodging her question and changing the topic to one that degraded herself. She had no clue why Yuna viewed herself as nothing special. Namjoo chose to answer her question carefully, “It’s not that you’re not special, but there’s something about you that makes me curious.”
Yuna sighed, “There really isn’t anything interesting about me. I’m just an ordinary girl from a normal family. Don’t you have anything better to do than to stick around a little kid that ran away from home?” Namjoo laughed, “Hasn’t it already been revealed that you aren’t really running away from home?”
Yuna sighed, “Technically, I did run away from home. Although its temporary. I intend to go back home afterwards.” Namjoo laughed, “I can’t make sense of you. You say you’re running away, but it looks to me like you just don’t want to be outside with your guard. You still haven’t revealed to me what sort of situation you’re in at the moment.”
Yuna coldly replied, “It isn’t any of your business to know the full details. I don’t intend to reveal anything.” Namjoo was surprised to find out that Yuna had a cold side to her. From their conversation earlier, Namjoo recalled that Yuna was originally running away from a ‘sticky situation’. The only information she gave out was that her family wasn’t approving of her decision to become a martial artist.
Namjoo tried to connect the dots and concluded that Yuna was avoiding being watched by her family’s guards because she wanted to secretly learn martial arts without their knowledge. Something about this didn’t seem right. It didn’t seem that Yuna was the type to rebel against her own family especially when her father was a war-hero, loved by all. The only plausible explanation was that she didn’t trust her own family’s guards.
There was something going on, but Namjoo couldn’t figure it out. She decided not to push Yuna any further. Namjoo wasn’t the nosy type, but it seemed that everything regarding Yuna made her curious. Yuna didn’t seem like an ordinary girl from an ordinary family. She seemed to be the exact opposite.
Namjoo concluded, “If you don’t want to tell me the real reason, I won’t pressure you into telling me. I just want to make sure that you won’t go around telling people my business.” Yuna replied, “I thought we already agreed that I wouldn’t tell anybody. How long are you planning on following me?”
Namjoo chuckled, “It almost seems like you don’t want me here. Did I do anything to offend you?” Yuna sighed, “It’s not anything you did, but I have a hard time trusting strangers.” Namjoo frowned, “I thought that we were becoming friends. Why the sudden change in attitude?”
Yuna could not figure out why Namjoo was so attached to her. She didn’t find herself to be interesting at all. It might be because she didn’t fully trust her. Yuna knew that Namjoo was calling her a friend but didn’t actually feel any friendship towards her. The only reason why Namjoo decided to be her ally was because she knew her secret.
Yuna shook her head at Namjoo’s response, “I’m not your friend though. You should know that. Could we maybe change our relationship to teacher and student?” Namjoo thought about it for a minute and concluded, “That sounds like a good idea. I could be your teacher, but I never said that my lessons will be free. What can a little girl like you give me?”
Yuna was tired of being called a little girl. She was technically over 100 years old if she counted her two lifetimes. Although she had a body of a kid, she definitely had the mind of a wise old woman. Yuna replied, “How about I give you money for the lessons?”
Namjoo rejected, “I’m not interested in money though. It’s not like I’m hurting for money at the moment. It seems that I won’t be able to become your teacher since there’s nothing that I want.” Yuna thought about it more carefully and responded, “If it’s not money you want, what could possibly convince you to become my teacher? I can give you anything you need, just as long as it’s within my means.”
Before Namjoo could give a proper answer, she was smacked in the back of her head by someone. She turned around angrily, “Who the h*ll hit me?” Namjoo was talented in martial arts and it surprised her that she wasn’t able to detect the other person’s movements. The person that hit her must be someone that’s stronger.
