Chapter 6 - L

The only person that would help me would be Akira. I’m sure that it’s him. I wonder how he could be here and not in the classroom. I could’ve sworn that I saw Akira inside the classroom with the rest of my classmates. How come he was here? I must’ve mistaken someone else as Akira.

I quickly corrected my position. I was standing extremely close to him. It was uncomfortable and it was awkward being so close to a stranger especially one that’s known to be a player. Before I knew it, he grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him. I once again ran into his chest. I glared up at him, “HEY! You’re being a bit rude. You didn’t have to do that!”

Akira put his finger on his lips and shushed me, “Quiet, they’ll be here soon.” I then realized the situation I was in wasn’t good. Mikami and his crew were still after me. A few seconds later, I heard Mikami and his friends run past us while panting, “Where the h*ll did she run off to? Did you see where she went?” The other friend shrugged, “I have no clue. I think she might’ve run away to the track field.”

He agreed, “She’s always running away from us on the track field. I sometimes think she’s like a little rat. She can run pretty fast.” He snickered, “She wouldn’t be able to run away from us if we run on both sides of the field. She’ll have to run into either of us. Let’s go!”

They sprinted away from us towards the track field. I was lucky today. Once I caught my breath, I spoke to Akira, “Thank you for helping me out today. I didn’t get to thank you earlier.” He said, “No problem. I’m just doing what anyone else would do.”

I didn’t believe that his intentions were truly just good will. I remembered everything that Sayuri said about him. I should probably thank him and also let him know that there’s nothing good that’ll happen if he hangs around me. I asked, “So why are you being so nice? What’s your intention?”

I couldn’t see his expression, but I could tell how he was feeling with the tone of his voice, “Are you suspicious of me? I thought no one would ever suspect me of all people. Do you realize who I am?” I shrugged, “Not really. I just met you today. How would I know you?” He laughed, “Haven’t you heard of the name Akira from anywhere?”

I shrugged, “No.” His tone revealed his disappointment, “I can’t believe you’ve never heard the name Akira before. I thought I was pretty popular with everyone.” I frowned, “I’m sorry, but I don’t know you that well. Isn’t today your first day?” He sighed, “I think you’re missing the point. It is my first day, but I’m a celebrity. Haven’t you heard the name Akira on tv or heard of me?” I began to connect the dots once he revealed that he was a celebrity. He’s AKIRA! He’s the singer/actor that constantly topped the music charts with his pop songs.

No wonder. The girls from our school were chanting his name. I should’ve known that he’d come to our school. That still doesn’t change the fact that he’s a player. If Sayuri says he’s a player, then he is one. There’s no doubt about it. I shrugged, “Who cares if you’re a singer or an idol. I don’t know who you are. I just want to know why you’re being nice to me.”

Akira sighed, “There’s no getting through to you, huh? I was just trying to help you out. No need to suspect me.” I frowned, “It’s just suspicious to me that some random stranger, especially an idol, would go out of their way to help someone like me. There’s nothing good for you if you get involved with me.”

Akira insisted, “I don’t care if you’re not liked by everyone. I just don’t like seeing anyone being treated so badly. Is that a bad thing? Do you want me to leave you alone?” I never expected anyone to be so nice. Was he just trying to sweet talk me into believing him? I decided to trust him for now, especially since he helped me get away from Mikami.

I shook my head, “It’s not that. I was only curious about your real intentions. As you can tell, I don’t have many people I can trust.” Akira said, “I won’t hold it against you then. I understand what you mean.” I asked, “What do you mean?” He paused for a moment to think about his response, “… I just know what its like to be bullied. It may not look like it, but I’ve experienced something similar.”

I couldn’t believe him. He’s handsome and he was a celebrity that caused girls to go wild. It didn’t make sense that someone like him could experience being bullied. I laughed, “You? Bullied? I think you’re just lying to get me to believe you. I don’t believe that you would get bullied by anybody.”

Akira sighed, “It may not seem like it, but I wasn’t always popular. There were times when I was bullied by my seniors. If you knew the real me, you would believe me.” I still didn’t believe him, “Sure… Sure you were bullied. I just don’t believe it.” He cried internally, “Would you believe me if I showed you a picture of me in middle school?”

I pointed at my eyes, “I don’t think I’ll be able to see anyway. There would be no point.” He noticed that I wasn’t wearing my glasses and he said, “If that’s the case, we should probably head out.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the school gates. I stopped him, “What are you doing? Where are you taking me?” He smiled, “You’ll find out.”
