Chapter 74 - HIBI

Eunho placed Yuna lightly on the bed. His guilt grew like a mountain whenever he saw her unconscious figure on the bed. This was the third time she fainted. Her body was weaker than most. He also noticed that she was extremely thin and pale unlike most kids. In comparison to Yuna, he was taller and much more muscular. She almost looked malnourished. He wondered how she could be when she came from such a wealthy background.

He pulled out the elixir of the phoenix from his pouch. The Elixir of the Phoenix was an ancient artifact that had collected dust in the underground tomb of the first Emperor of Guwon. The tomb was long forgotten even by the royal family. He was only able to find information about the tomb on accident in his previous life.

Eunho made sure to go to the ancient underground tomb to obtain all sorts of treasures. The Elixir of the Phoenix is known to cure all illnesses. Legend states that consuming even a droplet of the elixir will prolong life and even improve the human body’s function.

He saved the elixir for emergency situations. In his previous life he wasted the elixir on Yuna’s cousin, Haemi. Haemi was injured while on a trip with Prince Minho on the border of Guwon and Miyon. Eunho was ordered by the emperor to escort both Prince Minho and Haemi to the City of No Return. A gold mine was discovered in the vicinity.

The City of No Return was an extremely dangerous region. There were countless thieves and bandits that lived in the city. Normal citizens didn’t like to live in this city because of the high crime rate. The city was lawless and there were hardly any officials in the area. The city was neglected a long time ago.

The soldiers that protected the border were stationed at another city close by. The City of No Return was off-limits because of the horrible things that happened within its walls. No one knew the reason. People believed the city was filled with vengeful spirits. There were countless incidents where people went missing.

The soldiers that went to investigate were also found missing a few days later. There were hardly any clues to their whereabouts. Eunho was curious about it and decided to investigate. He wasn’t able to succeed in finding much. He came back with no clues to the disappearances.

The only reason Prince Minho was tasked to go there was because of the gold mine that was discovered nearby. There were reports of monsters found in the vicinity. No one believed in monsters, but they could not deny the facts that many came back from the mines with injuries. There were no soldiers capable enough to withstand the monster attacks.

Eunho was ordered to guard Prince Minho at all costs. The emperor wanted him to go there to eliminate the monsters if there were any. In his past life, he fortunately defeated the monster, but he lost an eye in the process. The loss of his eye was the main reason he could not face Yuna. He chose to love her one-sidedly throughout his lifetime. Who would’ve known that it was a stupid decision on his part.

Miyon was a mysterious nation with no allies and only enemies. Miyon is considered an enemy nation to Guwon citizens and the rest of the world. Miyon and Guwon’s war began shortly after their visit to the border. Eunho had some suspicions that Prince Minho may have been scheming with the enemy especially since things aligned perfectly with their plan.

Eunho didn’t know what would happen if Yuna took the elixir, but he knew that the only person he was willing to use it on was Yuna. He wasted it on Haemi thinking that Yuna would be distraught learning of Haemi’s death. The reality was different from what he expected. Haemi became the empress after scheming Yuna’s death alongside Prince Minho.

If only he wasn’t so gullible enough to believe in their lies. Both Prince Minho and Haemi were good at deceiving those with pure hearts. Eunho and Yuna would have lived a decent life if it weren’t for them. They lost everything in the span of a few years because of them. Eunho vowed in his heart that he would destroy them both.

Eunho unscrewed the bottle of elixir and placed it on Yuna’s lips. She must’ve thought it was water. She drank the liquid without much struggle. Her eyebrows scrunched up in disgust after tasting a sour taste. Suddenly, she felt a burning sensation in her throat and the burn slowly spread throughout her entire body.

Yuna’s body shook, almost as if she was having a seizure. Black liquid came oozing out of her pores and the stench permeated the room. Once he noticed the black liquid, he stepped out of the room to find a maid. General Junho had instructed one of the maids to attend to Yuna at all times after the kidnapping incident.

Eunho instructed, “Get some water and a towel. Bring it to Yuna’s bedroom.” The maid lifted an eyebrow when she noticed that there was a man in Lady Yuna’s bedroom. What could possibly be happening in the room? The maid knew better than anyone else how General Eunho could be. She heard rumors about his cold personality. She chose to keep quiet about the matter.

She replied obediently, “Yes, I shall have the water brought to Lady Yuna’s bedroom as soon as possible.” Eunho didn’t say much afterwards, so the maid did what was instructed. Eunho went back into the bedroom to see how Yuna was doing. She was breathing heavily, and the black liquid was continuously pouring out of her pores. The room was now very smelly.

Eunho opened the windows to air out the bedroom. He then sat down on the chair beside Yuna’s bed. He grabbed her hand and felt for her pulse. Her heartbeat was irregular and there was something odd about it. Was she poisoned? How was that possible?
