Chapter 75 - HIBI

Eunho wasn’t a doctor, but he could tell something was wrong. Her pulse was irregular and there were signs of poisoning. How could he have not noticed this for so long? Even after she turned 16, she looked small and thin. He couldn’t think of any poison that could cause her to stunt her growth and make her look malnourished.

She didn’t seem to have any other symptoms. The only thing he could think of was that she didn’t have much endurance and stamina. He only thought that it was normal since most females aren’t as active. He wondered why someone would poison Yuna without the intent to kill. Yuna lived till the age of 19. The poison would have killed her way before if the culprit was planning to have Yuna assassinated.

It didn’t make sense to him. There would be no reason to cripple her martial arts because females hardly practiced martial arts. He wondered what the reason could be. The only two people that would want to harm Yuna was either Prince Minho or her cousin Haemi.

He decided it would be best to investigate at night when everyone is asleep. He could easily sneak into the palace to find any clues and it would be even easier to find clues in Haemi’s residence. He knew Haemi’s background, and her family wasn’t as successful as Yuna’s family. There weren’t very many guards in her home. He would be able to sneak in without much trouble. The only concern he had was with the palace. The palace is heavily guarded and not even a rat was able to sneak in. He’d have to be extra careful.

It was a good thing that he checked her pulse before the effects of the elixir took place. He would never have guessed that she was poisoned if he didn’t check her pulse. The elixir would most likely cure her poison. She had yet to recover from the effects, but it would only be a matter of time.

While he was deep in thought, the maid had returned with the water and towel. He was reluctant to let her see Yuna, especially since he didn’t know if the maid was someone he could trust. He didn’t want her to discover that Yuna’s poison was close to being cured. His cold voice rang out from behind the paper sliding door, “Leave the water and towel there. If there’s anything else, I will make sure to call you.”

The maid placed the contents down in front of the door. She kept wondering what she should do. It was not allowed for men to be in Lady Yuna’s room. It would cause a commotion if everyone found out. She decided to let Lady Sun know secretly. The maid rushed out towards Lady Sun’s courtyard.

Meanwhile, Eunho dipped the towel in the water and lightly dabbed Yuna’s skin with the towel. The black liquid instantly covered the towel. He put the towel back into the water and squeezed out the black water. He repeated this action multiple times until he was done wiping her arms and face of the black liquid.

If only he could trust the maid, he would’ve asked her to bathe Yuna properly. He decided that this would do for now. After placing the water and towel to the side, he gazed down at Yuna’s face. Her eyes were closed, and he couldn’t see her bright eyes filled with life. He had never met anyone like her.

Yuna was a peculiar person. She always had new and strange ideas that challenged his views. When he heard about what she told the emperor, he couldn’t believe that someone so young could come up with something so brilliant. He had heard from the servants that most of the new inventions and gadgets were made by her. At first, he found it hard to believe.

He never noticed this side of her in his past life. He wondered if he even knew her in the first place. He believed that she was someone unreachable, but he never expected her to be so down to earth. She wasn’t pretentious like the rest of the women he encountered. He could tell from a glance that there was more to her than just her appearance.

Her eyes gleamed as if there was a brilliant soul hidden within her body. Something about her made him think she was from out of this world. She had a certain charm about her that made him want to know her better. He knew that in this life, he wouldn’t be able to stay away so easily. He knew that they weren’t meant to be together, but it wasn’t so easy to control.

He was slowly starting to care for her, and he was treating her special unlike anyone else. He had never acted this way with anyone. She didn’t know that though. Now that they actually got to meet again, he no longer wanted to stay apart from her.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps approaching Yuna’s courtyard. He was able to hear better than normal people because of his martial arts. He could tell from the light footsteps that the people heading towards Yuna’s room were women. It was probably the maid and someone else. He knew that the maid would bring someone here after finding out that he was in the same bedroom with Yuna.

After a while, he heard the maid’s voice, “Sir, Lady Sun is here to see Miss. May we enter?” Eunho permitted, “Come in.” Sun and the maid walked in to see Yuna bedridden. Sun rushed to Yuna’s side and asked, “What happened? Is she ok?” Eunho could tell that Sun deeply cared for Yuna. He had no reason to doubt her loyalty towards Yuna. The only person he couldn’t trust was the maid.

Eunho ordered, “We would like to discuss in private. You may leave.” The maid bowed and left the room. After the maid shut the door, he directed his gaze towards Sun. Sun had Yuna’s hands in hers while praying for Yuna’s wellbeing.

Eunho decided to ask, “Did you know that Lady Yuna was poisoned?” Sun was so shocked she dropped Yuna’s hand and muttered, “Is that why she’s in bed? How was she poisoned?”

Eunho explained, “The poison wasn’t the cause for her fainting. She fainted after she had a sparring match with one of the soldiers. She has a very weak body. I inspected her pulse and discovered that she was poisoned. It was a good thing that I had the antidote for her poison in hand. She should be better in a few days.”

Sun sighed in relief, “I feel ashamed to be called her sister. I couldn’t tell if she was poisoned this entire time. I only thought that Yuna was normally weak.” He acknowledged, “I trust that you mean no harm to Lady Yuna that’s why I decided to tell you. I don’t know who could be behind the poisoning, but I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough.”

Sun could not think of anyone that wanted to harm Yuna. Most people were praising her for her brilliant ideas and everyone at home loved her. Sun wasn’t out in public much because of her Ezraen background so she didn’t know what was going on outside. She felt ashamed for not being able to do anything to help Yuna.

Yuna was always doing anything for her and helping her with her medical research. The entire time she was focused on herself, she hadn’t realized how much danger Yuna was in. Sun declared, “If you’re out searching for the culprit, I’ll make sure to help by finding out what type of poison it is.”

Eunho notified, “You need to work fast because she has already consumed the antidote. It will only be a matter of time before the poison will completely leave her system.” She reassured him, “No worries. All I need to do is get a sample of Yuna’s blood. Once I’ve obtained her blood, I’ll be able to test for the poison.” Eunho wasn’t used to this sort of medical practice, so he asked, “Her blood? Are you sure that’s a good idea?”

Sun smiled, “Although it’s something most aren’t used to, it’s what Yuna has taught me. If you haven’t already noticed, Yuna is incredibly intelligent. She knows things that no one else knows. It makes me believe that she is a one-of-a-kind genius. She has taught me so many different things that I wonder why she herself hasn’t become a doctor.”

Eunho was happy to find out that there were people that truly cared for Yuna. He could tell just from speaking with Sun that she admired Yuna and would never do anything to harm her. During his past life, he never knew anyone close to Yuna because he distanced himself so much from her. He was glad that there were people that stood by her even through death. He wasn’t sure if Sun was beside Yuna in death in the past life, but he could tell that she would most likely be on her side regardless.

Authors Note: Thanks for supporting me and reading so far into my novel;) I just wanted to let everyone know that I plan to make the novel a long one. I first intended the novel to be around 300+ chapters I know that I changed the story around a bit, but please bear with me. Yuna is still 12-years-old. There's still a long way to go until she's 19-years-old. It still isn't known if Eunho is the main male lead or not. Yuna doesn't have any feelings for either at this moment. For everyone that loved Jimin, I intend to add more scenes with Jimin in the future. Please let me know in the comments who you're rooting for. Thanks:)
