Yuna trembled in fear, “Please don’t eat me!” To her surprise, the phoenix didn’t come closer. The phoenix erupted with laughter, “I’m sorry to disappoint, but I don’t eat humans. It should be the other way around.” Yuna thought to herself, “Huh?” The phoenix explained, “I guess you don’t know yet. You’ve just taken the elixir of the phoenix which is made with my heart as a recipe.” Yuna panicked when she heard that she had consumed one of its organs. She denied fervently, “I didn’t eat your heart. There’s no way I could’ve taken that elixir.”
The last thing Yuna remembered was sparring with Namjoo. She didn’t recall ever taking the elixir of the phoenix. She begged, “I didn’t eat your heart so please let me go. This is unfair! I don’t even know how I got here.” The phoenix’s wings spread out magnificently. Yuna curled up in fright at the sudden movement. Her shivering came to a halt when she felt the wings wrap around her body. The flames didn’t burn her like she expected.
The wings made of fire were warm and comforting. The phoenix softened its voice to calm her down, “Don’t be afraid. I’m not angry. It was destined for my heart to be consumed. I was just waiting for the person to take the potion to be finally free. I’ve been locked inside the bottle for centuries.” Yuna couldn’t believe what was happening. She knew that reincarnation and God existed, but she couldn’t believe that there was anything supernatural in this world.
The phoenix continued, “Since you’ve consumed the elixir, I’m obliged to grant you one wish. Of course, there are a few wishes that cannot be granted. One, you cannot ask for more wishes. Two, you cannot ask for anyone to be brought back to life. Three, you cannot ask for someone to fall in love with you.”
Yuna stated, “That makes sense. I’m glad you can be set free, but I truly think you found the wrong person. I didn’t take the elixir. I don’t need to make any wishes. I just want to be sent back to my home.” The phoenix frowned, “It may not make sense to you since you’re unconscious. I’ll let you see what has happened while you were unconscious. I hope that things will become clear.”
The phoenix tapped her head with its beak. Once the beak touched her forehead, she witnessed what was going on outside of her body. Once the visions appeared in her mind, she began to grow anxious. How was Minho able to appear inside her residence? She thought that all outsiders weren’t permitted to enter during this time. Her father strictly prevented anyone from entering after she was kidnapped.
She wondered how Sun knew Minho. Throughout her entire past life, Sun never told her anything about Minho. Sun was her personal maid, there would’ve been an instance where Minho and Sun were in the same room.
From their conversation, it seemed that Minho despised Sun and it had something to do with her parents. She wondered how things played out in her past life. Did Sun intentionally keep this from her? For what reason? Yuna wanted to ask her why she hid this from her, but she had no way of asking. Yuna had yet to marry Minho and Sun wasn’t her personal maid. Things were different now.
Why did Minho keep this a secret as well? If he despised Sun so much, why didn’t he kill her like he did with everyone else that got in the way? Did Sun betray her? Yuna had her doubts, but at the same time she couldn’t accept the thought of Sun betraying her. There must’ve been a reason.
If Sun betrayed her, then she wouldn’t have sacrificed her own life to save hers. Yuna knew that Sun wasn’t someone that would easily betray. Minho must have threatened her. What could’ve made Sun keep everything a secret?
Yuna’s heart ached watching Sun being treated so horribly by Minho. Minho kicked her body to the ground. She could see that Sun was in a lot of pain. Once Sun was captured, Minho faced her dresser. His evil expression was reflected on the mirror atop her dresser. His expression was the exact replica of the one he showed right before her execution.
The nightmare that haunted her prevented her from forgetting that exact expression. Minho’s true colors were shown in that exact moment. Yuna found out how horrible of a person he was during her stay in prison. She should’ve believed everyone at that time.
There were countless people inside the prison cell that told her of their tragic life and how they got there. Most of them were innocent people that found themselves caught in Minho’s web.
They were all victims of Minho’s cruelty. He would capture, torture and murder anyone that got in his way of becoming the next Emperor. Even after she heard the tragic stories of everyone locked in the prison cells, she still refused to believe any of it. She continued to love him endlessly. Yuna was lost in her delusions. She thought that the love she experienced was real. The memories of Minho and her laughing so happily and expressing their love was the only thing that kept her going in that dark and lonely prison cell.
She was only able to find out the truth once she faced him at the execution grounds. Minho showed a different expression towards Haemi. She always thought that what they had was love, but that was all lies. The love and care he showed to Haemi was different from the fake smiles he showed her. The last expression he showed her before her death was his true feelings.
She could feel the cold hatred and ridicule in his eyes. His every expression revealed that disgust he felt towards her. How could she not have known that Minho was such an evil person? If only she had paid closer attention to everyone around her, she would’ve known that he was the cause of many people’s misery. She knew that deep in her heart, Sun had suffered throughout the entire time she was engaged with him.
Yuna’s plan to live a peaceful life would never come true if Minho wasn’t taken out of the picture. Even with all the knowledge she obtained, she wouldn’t be able to live the way she wanted. The only way for her wish to come true was if Minho was taken down.
The phoenix noticed the change within her heart and said, “If that’s what you truly wish, I can make it happen.” Yuna shook her head fervently, “That’s not what I wish. Although I wish for Minho’s demise, I would like to get my revenge on my own. I want to see him suffer the same way I did. I want to protect everyone with my own strength. If Minho was taken out of the picture with just a wish, it would be too easy. I’ll make him pay for what he did to me and everyone in the past.”
