Chapter 3 MTTV

I can't believe it, he's a complete fraud. I grumbled to the author, "Hey Author, did you plan this on purpose? He's nothing like the Yu-Jun I read on paper!" I never expected that he would be so petty. He won't give me a single penny. I was easily fooled by him. I knew I should've read the divorce papers, but I just wanted to prove a point that I don't have any feelings for him.

The sad reality is that I won't be getting help from the villain. That only leaves me to work hard to become rich on my own. I could quit being an actress and become a singer/idol again. I really wanted to go this route, but thought about the plot. I've already gotten the villainess role in the drama. I might as well just finish what the original started and then decide if I want to go a different career route. Plus, it would be good for me to get some good responses from the drama.

Although I was an idol/singer, I've had minor roles in some dramas. I know the basics of acting and was interested in acting briefly. I probably would've become an actress as well in my previous life if I wasn't so occupied with being a singer. I enjoy creating music too much and it's my true passion. I could focus more on becoming a singer after finishing the drama.

I found the original's purse on the dresser in her bedroom. I searched the purse and found her wallet. I looked at her ID and found out she was the same age as me and she had the same birthday. I never expected that we'd share the same birthday, age and name. It kind of makes me think that the original and I are connected in some way. Am I an alternative version of her from an alternative universe? Who knows? I don’t know how I got here, but I guess I have no choice but to live this life the best I can.

While looking through her wallet, I found a business card for the acting company she signed with: Square Entertainment. Luckily for me, the address to the company was printed in fine print, but it didn’t look the same as the filming location. Where could the filming location be? I turned the card over and found the original’s handwriting sprawled out on the card with the filming location.

While admiring the original’s handwriting, I noticed something gold in her wallet. I discovered a golden card with Yu-Jun's name on it. I hit the jackpot! If he's not going to give me any money, I'll just max out his credit card! I jumped with joy after discovering his credit card. Is that how the original was able to buy all the designer bags and clothes? If he decides to not give me a single penny after divorce, I'll make sure to use his money while I'm married. That would be the best payback!

I wanted to go shopping right away, but decided it'd be best to go to the filming location first. While putting the wallet back in the purse, I found keys in her purse. I was shocked to know that the original knew how to drive. I thought she would be the princess type and be driven around by a personal driver. I guess I was wrong. I never drove as an idol and never needed to. I had a manager that drove me around. I shared a tiny apartment with my group members. I never got to experience being rich even if I made tons as a singer/idol.

Even if I wanted to learn to drive, it would be difficult. If I have a driver's license already, people would wonder why I'm trying to learn to drive. I guess I'll just have to avoid driving for now. I put the keys back in the purse and grabbed my phone. I called a taxi instead.

************************

The filming location was in an obscure place in the mountains. There was an old abandoned school that was located in the mountains. The actual school relocated to a place closer to the suburbs. The abandoned school building was fixed up to become the new filming location for 'Roses are Dangerous'.

I looked through the script. Today was the first day of filming and I really didn’t want to mess up the scenes. I initially thought that there was only one line for the antagonist, but that wasn’t true. The antagonist had a lot of lines! She tried remembering the contents of the novel. What happened? I thought that Seoyoung only gets one line. Maybe she only got one line because of her bad acting and her attitude towards Dambi. Seoyoung was always trying to sabotage Dambi every chance she got. She probably caused the director to be so angry that he reduced her lines to only 1 sentence. I definitely am not going to mess with the female lead.

I studied the script and found out 'Roses are Dangerous' was not normally a school drama. The female lead, Park Jiyeon, is an aspiring fashion designer. She meets the male lead, Seo Minkyu in high school. He later becomes the CEO of the company she works for. They fall in love during their high school years, but their different backgrounds lead them to totally different lives. The villainess Min Chaerin is originally Park Jiyeon's best friend.

The female lead comes from a low class family that owns a restaurant while the male lead comes from a high class family. The drama is about a typical rich guy who falls in love with a poor girl. The scenario was so cliche, I wondered how people would enjoy watching this sort of drama. It might be generic because the author didn’t want to bother writing about a drama within a novel. It seemed like too much work even for me, a person that doesn’t write. The villainess falls in love with the same guy as her best friend. The villainess is supposed to be quiet and reserved during their high school years, but she gradually changes out of jealousy.

Min Chaerin grew up differently from the female lead, Park Jiyeon. Her father gambles and abuses her at home. She came from a bad background and she is constantly suffering. The female lead is kind and she tries to help her friend. After they find out that they like the same guy, Chaerin slowly begins to change.

Their friendship is ruined and Chaerin ends up getting adopted when her father is found dead. They later find out that the villainess murdered her own father. The villainess grows colder after this life changing event. Chaerin starts a new family with her adopted family and grows into a different person.

The female lead doesn't get to say goodbye to her friend. Years later, they meet again, but as enemies. Chaerin is adopted by a rich family and she climbs her way up the social ladder. She becomes the male lead's potential fiancee.

I played the villainess in her younger years when she was in high school. Since both Dambi and I are amateur actresses that don't have much experience under our belt, we were given the roles of female lead and villainess during their childhood years. This drama is definitely going to become a hit. The adult versions of the female lead and male lead are played by the current Film Empress and Film Emperor.

I wonder how the director was able to condense the high school part to only 1 sentence for the antagonist when there was so much happening. Maybe they thought that the villainess’ background story was unnecessary. They probably made the antagonist become an extra character instead. It was a pity that they had to change the original story because the background story behind the antagonist was interesting and made the story not so cliche.

Although I’m not the best actress, I’m confident I can play the antagonist well. I didn’t act much in my past life, but this script really got my blood pumping. I could see why people want to become actors/actresses. I can’t wait to act out the villainess role.

This drama causes the female lead, Dambi's fame to skyrocket. Unluckily for the original Seo-young, this drama did the opposite. This will become her worst nightmare. Her little fan base becomes nonexistent after this drama. She becomes the butt of everyone's jokes. Her acting was so bad that they used her clips to teach future actresses and actors how not to act.

I'm confident enough in my acting skills that I won't be laughed at. I wasn't too worried. Before heading to the filming location, I studied the scenes and practiced in the mirror till I was confident. It was really easy memorizing the scenes because the scenes were so memorable and super interesting.

Plus, the villainess role surprisingly didn't have very many lines. She appears in a lot of scenes, but her lines were simple. Although she had a lot of one word sentences, her role was a tricky one. It became evident to me that this role was supposed to be given to someone that is experienced in acting. The less lines someone has, the more expressions she needs to show to get the scenes to make sense.

The director probably couldn't find the right actress to play the villainess, so he ended up picking the original. Not many people enjoyed acting as the antagonist. Everyone wanted to act as the main lead. I could tell that’s how everyone in this novel would think this way, but in reality, it was different. In real life, people were able to gain fame even with the antagonist role. I remember all the actors and actresses that got famous from playing villainous roles. Sometimes the villainous roles have way more character than the main roles. The main roles don’t guarantee that you’ll be famous. It’s the acting behind it and the in depth character development that can really make or break the role.

The original Seoyoung had a reputation for making it difficult for directors and I could see why the director chose her to be the villainess. No one wanted to act as the villainess because they were all aiming for the main lead. The director probably gave her this role because he thought that even if she was bad at acting it wouldn’t really matter since it was all about the main leads anyway.

The director found Seoyoung to be the perfect candidate because she had someone backing her in secret. This mysterious backer never revealed himself, but they knew that he was someone they couldn't mess with. I don't know how the original convinced Yu-Jun to help her, but she must've succeeded. The director really needed investors and who else but to utilize Seoyoung’s mysterious backer.

If I didn't have a little experience in acting, I would definitely have a difficult time trying to play Min Chaerin in the drama. I played the antagonist roles in a few dramas before. It's easy to make the mistake of portraying villainesses as the typical bad girl. Most find the villainess to be an annoying character, but a true actress knows how to make an annoying character, human.

A true actress knows how to express all the emotional bits into ones that people normally feel in a one-sided love. There are countless people in the world that know exactly how it feels. I already succeeded in playing the perfect role as a villainess in another drama. I'm not worried about this role at all. This role in particular was very interesting and really showed character development.

I spent the entire time in the cab getting into the role and understanding Min Chaerin as a person. She grew up without a good parental figure and watching the friend she cared about get everything she couldn't. The man she loved looks only at her friend. Her friend's betrayal and the abuse at home causes her to break.

I was already in a gloomy mood. I could already feel how broken Min Chaerin was and how the constant neglect and abuse was shaping her. When I walked into the set, I noticed the directors and crew member's angry gazes directed at me. A woman with glasses came rushing towards me. She slapped my arm angrily and whispered, " Why are you here so late! The director and crew members have been waiting for you to arrive. This isn't looking too good. Today is the first day and you're late."

The woman with glasses must be Yongju from the text message this morning. Without responding to Yongju, I rushed over to the director and crew members. I bowed 90 degrees towards them and apologized, "I'm so sorry for being late. I won't let it happen again." The director and everyone were shocked when they heard me. They probably didn't expect that Seoyoung knew how to apologize. The director coughed awkwardly, "It's okay. Go get dressed and get your makeup done in the dressing room. Once you're done, let me know."

The makeup artist pulled my arm and took me to the dressing room. She sat me down on the chair and began removing my perfect makeup. She redid the makeup to something more natural and placed glasses with no frames on them. She put a wig cap over my hair and placed a black wig with bangs over it. I guess the bangs really fit Min Chaerin's character as a teenager.

After fixing the wig she said, "Get dressed and go see the director afterwards. I need to re-touch up on Dambi's makeup." She glared at me resentfully, "If you weren't so late, her makeup wouldn't have to be redone." She shoved the school uniform into my arms and walked away snarkily. I ignored the rude makeup artist and got dressed.

The school uniform surprisingly looked good on me. I was dressed up to look like a nerdy girl, but the uniform couldn’t hide her beautiful curves. I wish I looked like this in my high school years. I was jealous of the original Seoyoung for being naturally beautiful. I'm so happy I got this body. I admired myself in the mirror for a bit before heading out.

****************************

The director told me to wait for a bit until Dambi get's her makeup redone, so I walked over to the table of food that was prepared for the crew members and actresses. A bunch of fast food was sprawled across the table. I grinned happily at the food I was forbidden from touching as an idol. I'm sure actresses are also supposed to maintain their figure, but I guess they weren't so strict here.

I looked around to see if anyone was looking and grabbed a burger wrapped in paper. I unwrapped the burger and salivated looking at the high calorie burger. When was the last time I ate a burger? I couldn't remember how long it's been. My manager strictly prohibited me from eating any junk food, candy or anything that had sugar in it.

I noticed that no one was looking and it didn't look like anyone cared about what I did, so I took a big bite out of the burger. That one bite brought me to heaven instantly. I chewed slowly while holding back my tears of happiness. I completely ignored the fact that there were many people around me. While enjoying my burger, I heard someone laugh loudly. I realized too late that there was someone sitting not too far from me.

The person that was laughing loudly was the male lead of the drama. I could tell by the matching school uniform. He was handsome and charming, how a male lead should be. He seemed to be laughing at me. My mouth was full at the moment. I was startled by being caught secretly eating junk food. I began choking and coughing incessantly and made everyone stare at us.

He quickly handed over a water bottle and patted my back lightly. His voice was caring and gentle, "Here, drink this." I quickly drank the water and cleared my throat. My loud coughing already caught everyone's attention. Some of the female crew members glared at me from a distance when they noticed my interaction with the male lead. I ignored them and said, "Thanks."

He laughed, "Eat slowly. No one's stopping you." He pointed at the food and continued laughing at me. The male lead playing the younger version in this drama is also an aspiring actor. His name is Do Youngwoo. He shares the same fate as Dambi. His fame skyrockets after the drama. He's just a background character in the novel, but he shows up once in a while to help Dambi with various things. He isn't a potential love interest, he's just a friend to the female lead.

I think it would be good to be nice to him. It’s not like he’s the male lead in the novel. I won’t accidentally steal the male lead from the female lead by talking to him. I thanked him, "Thanks for the water. Mind if I get your name? I didn’t really get an introduction since this is our first day and all. My name is Lee Seoyoung, if you’re curious. I play the antagonist role." He was surprisingly a nice person, " nice to meet you. I'll be the male lead, Seo Minkyu. My name is Do Youngwoo. You can call me Youngwoo Oppa." I had no clue if he was older than me. I asked, "Are you sure you're an oppa? I might be older than you. I'm 22." He pouted, "I'm 22 as well. I guess you won't be calling oppa then? I was hoping you would."

This guy is surprisingly flirty. I didn't expect him to be like this. Wasn't he supposed to be only a friend to the female lead? He's handsome, but I'm not really interested in him like that. He had the boyish charm that most male idols have. I personally prefer men similar to Yu-Jun. The male god type... I tried to cover up my not interested expression with an awkward laugh, "I don't know if oppa would be appropriate. I'll stick with calling you Mr. Do, if you don’t mind."

He frowned, "But that makes me sound so old. If Youngwoo oppa is too weird, how about just Youngwoo? We are the same age after all." I refused, "I just met you. I'm not sure if I'm close enough to call you by first name though. I think I'll just stick to calling you Mr. Do." He seemed unhappy with my response, but continued to be friendly, "Fine, call me whatever you want for now, but we will eventually get to know each other during the drama. You can call me Youngwoo later."

I sighed, "That only depends on if we become friends." He smiled confidently, "I'm sure we will become friends." I was surprised that he was trying to become my friend. I thought everyone hated the original Seoyoung. He seems to not know much about Seoyoung's rumors. I guess this could be good for me. I can easily get him to be my friend and also befriend the female lead. There wouldn't be any problems in the future if I don't make them my enemy.
