Eunho was curious about what had happened to Yuna over the years, but his curiosity would have to wait until he finished explaining their plan. He continued, “After discovering that you were poisoned, I generally investigated who could have been behind the poisoning. It was discovered that there was a maid that abused you when you were just an infant. That maid was executed by your father during that time. So we weren’t able to discover who had poisoned you at that time.”
Eunho sighed, “We were stuck and had no leads as to who would have poisoned you. It wasn’t until we investigated your personal kitchen.” Yuna didn’t expect that the culprit would be poisoning food in her kitchen. She never had maids around her so that might be the reason why they were sneaking into her kitchen. Eunho explained, “We found traces of poison inside the food in your personal kitchen. It wasn’t too hard to find out which maid had access to your kitchen. You should already guess who it is.”
Yuna knew who it was. The only maid that had access to her personal kitchen was the head maid. The only maids that she had were the laundry maids and the head maid. The head maid was in charge of restocking all the kitchens in the Kim Residence. The laundry maids weren’t even allowed in the kitchens.
Eunho continued, “We then interrogated the head maid. It took a while to finally get her confession. She confessed that it was Yuna’s aunt that had poisoned her for all these years. It was your cousin, Haemi’s mother. After we found out the culprit, we were planning on arresting her, but things became a bit complicated. Somehow during this time, Haemi and her mother discovered that the maid they planted as a spy was discovered. They must’ve schemed during the time we were trying to get her confession.”
It was frustrating to know that everytime they got close to the truth there was always an obstacle blocking their way. Haemi and her mother had carefully planned this all out. Eunho stated, “Even after finding out who the culprit was, we weren’t able to arrest Haemi’s mother because this situation became a lot more complicated. Once we got to Haemi’s household, there were guards stationed there to protect Haemi’s mother. The guards would not let us enter. Their head maid stepped out and claimed that she was behind this and that Haemi and her mother knew nothing about this. The pocheong(police) came and took her away. It was odd because we didn’t get the police involved. Because the police took her away we weren’t able to interrogate her. We weren’t able to do much.”
Yuna knew immediately that there was someone else backing them from behind the scenes. Yuna frowned, “There’s someone else that’s carefully planning all of this out. Were you able to find out who was behind it?” Eunho shook his head, “We weren’t able to find out who is exactly behind all of this, but we were able to find out that whoever is helping Haemi and her mother is from the palace. We suspect that it might be Minho, but then again it might not be him. I don’t know if you already know this, but Minho has taken Haemi in as his concubine.”
Yuna nodded, “I found that out not too long ago. I highly doubt that Minho is the one behind this. I think that he is just backing Haemi so that her mother doesn’t become the culprit.” Eunho agreed, “It may have initially started off with just Haemi’s mother scheming and poisoning you since young, but over the years, it seems that they have gained support.” Minho probably wouldn’t want to be involved in the poisoning incident because his main goal is to gain her father’s support to become crown prince. If it was discovered that he was involved in this matter, he would lose all chances of becoming crown prince.
This was probably all done by Haemi and her mother, but Minho was there to help them out of a sticky situation. Eunho said, “We initially thought that Minho was backing them, but on further inspection we found out that there was someone else with more power that was helping them out. Minho doesn’t have enough power to carry out this elaborate plan. It must be someone with power equivalent to the queen. The reason is because they have connections with the pocheong (police).” There is no one powerful enough to corrupt the police unless they are of royal status. Minho is royalty, but he does not have enough power to control the police. The only person they could think of was the queen.
Eunho finally began explaining why Sun was in prison in the first place, “I guess the poison incident really ticked off the one backing them from behind the scenes. They somehow got false evidence against Sun and blamed her for poisoning you.” It was an easy way for them to blame everything on Sun. Sun was Ezraen and they knew that the public was prejudiced against Ezraens. All of this must’ve taken a long time for it to be extended to 3 years. Yuna asked, “So was Sun imprisoned the entire time?”
Eunho shook his head, “It may seem like she was locked in prison for the entire 2 years, but she wasn’t. We were able to break into the prison sooner and our initial plan was to get her out, but Sun refused. She came up with a plan. If she were to escape the prison, she would have to live the rest of her life as a fugitive. She decided that it was best that she remain in prison. Even if she escaped, we still wouldn’t have evidence against Haemi and her mother. The royal family also knew well that if she was executed, your father would not stand for it. They are afraid of angering your father so it’s a given that she would only be left in prison and not executed. We also didn’t know where you were located. So her plan was to stay inside the prison and find out your location from inside the palace.”
If it weren’t for Sun’s quick thinking, he wouldn’t have been able to get so many of his soldiers to infiltrate the palace as spies. Yuna smiled, “Of course our Sun is a genius! So what happened next?” Eunho liked seeing her smile. He wished she would smile like that more often, “We snuck the prison cell key into her prison and she was able to go in and out of the prison every night to go search for you. We searched for you for 2 years and still could not find where you were. We weren’t able to find you till now, but we did get evidence against Haemi’s mother just recently.”
Yuna was shocked, “What’d you find?” Eunho grinned, “We found evidence that the poison Haemi’s mother gave to you is only available through the black market inside the Gisaeng District. We were able to locate the person involved in selling the poisonous flower required to create the specified poison. Apparently, the man that sold the flower kept hidden transactions between the buyers. We were able to steal the ledger successfully.” Yuna was so proud of them. They were able to find evidence. It was only a matter of time before Haemi and her mother would be sent to prison!
Eunho said, “After we found evidence, we naturally needed to get Sun out of the prison. We knew that regardless of if the culprit was Sun or not, we still would not be able to get her out of prison. The Emperor has a strong dislike of Ezraens and he will find a way to keep her in prison regardless of if she is guilty or not. So we planned out a way for Sun to escape the prison without them knowing. We had Sun act out her death to get her out of there. Of course this wasn’t easy. The guards would be able to tell she was alive if they felt her breathing. So Sun concocted medicine that would cause her heart beat to slow to almost nothing for at least 30 minutes. The plan went without a hitch. She was able to escape successfully. She’s currently at home. So no need to be so worried about her.”
Yuna was overjoyed to find out that she was alive and well. Sun was such a genius! She couldn’t believe that all of this happened while she was gone. Eunho questioned, “So mind explaining to us what happened to you during these 3 years? We’ve been searching for you and could not find any traces of you.” What was she going to tell them? She didn’t know if she should tell him that she was unconscious for 3 years because of the elixir she gave him? She couldn’t think of any lies to cover it up. She might as well just tell them the truth. She didn’t really have to tell them about Fifi did she?
